Taking a Detour to Savor the Authentic Yonezawa Beef【19】
Day 2【2014/8/20】
Niigata → Yamagata → Akita
I left the manga cafe just before 6 am.
I caught the first train to the next station. I had planned this day's itinerary the night before.
There were two routes to head north: one along the Sea of Japan and the other inland. I chose the inland route with the aim of enjoying some sightseeing, targeting a "certain specialty."
By the second day, I was appreciating the freedom to choose my "route," "stations to stop by," and "food to eat" at each destination. It was inevitable that solo traveling became a hobby.
I saw triangular hanging straps for the first time.
I passed Imaizumi Station for the first time.
I rode on a "One-man train" for the first time.
The view from the train window was a vast rural landscape. There were three passengers including myself.
I changed trains at Niigata → Shibata → Sakamachi, but from Sakamachi to the next station took almost 160 minutes. Since I woke up at 5 am, I mostly slept on the train.
"Yonezawa Station"
At a restaurant called Shokudo Kine in front of the station, I enjoyed the local specialty, "Yonezawa beef."
Perhaps due to hunger, the focus isn't right, but it's a sukiyaki set meal.
After finishing my meal and waiting for the train at the station, I saw a broadcast of the Koshien tournament. Teams from Tohoku were performing well, and the local elderly people were very excited.
I changed trains at Yamagata Station and headed to the next station.
I also got off at Shinjo Station for a transfer. Since I had time, I took a stroll around the station. This is one of the joys of traveling with an 18-ticket.
The area outside the station was quiet.
The inside of the station was stylish. Posters of festivals held in Tohoku were eye-catching.
After leaving Shinjo, I moved to Yokote → Akita → Ugo Ushijima. This movement alone took about 3 hours.
I stayed at a health land-like facility on this day. I had dinner at a nearby udon restaurant, took a bath in the large communal bath, and went to bed early. I wanted to plan the next day, but I couldn't overcome the sleepiness.
There was a poster of Akita beauties inside the facility.
Stations stopped at: Niigata → Shibata → Sakamachi → Yonezawa → Yamagata → Shinjo → Yokote → Akita → Ugo Ushijima
Total ride time: 527 minutes
