Enjoying Three Meals of Seafood Bowls at a Bustling Morning Market, Rain or Shine, in Hakodate【21】
Day 4【2014/8/22】
in Hokkaido
It's morning.
When I woke up, there was a stranger next to me.
The view is nice again, but unfortunately, it was raining.
This guesthouse has a Japanese taste, and it seems to be well-received by foreigners.
I left the guesthouse and headed to the morning market in the rain.
I was looking for a place to eat a seafood bowl for breakfast. After peeking into several shops, I entered the busiest one.
"Kikuyo Dining Hall"
I entered around 7:30 AM, and it was full of customers. It remained crowded even while I was eating.
I had a three-color bowl.
Sea urchin, salmon roe, and crab.
It was packed with three types of fresh seafood. I was sleepy and don't remember the taste well, but I finished it in less than 10 minutes. The seaweed miso soup was also delicious.
I had some time before the train departed, so I strolled around the morning market.
The long journey begins with this train from Hakodate Station.
I was going from Hakodate to Nanae, and there were several stations with stopover time in between. Maybe for bathroom breaks during the long journey? By the way, it took 194 minutes from Hakodate to Nanae.
At Mori Station, students who seemed to be on summer vacation were selling squid rice on the platform.
Stations near the sea make for picturesque scenes.
Actually, I received a souvenir when I left the guesthouse. The kindness of people touches my heart when traveling alone. The gift was cookies, which I ate on the train.
There were many unusual station names.
After a long train journey, I arrived at Otaru Station. Compared to the stations we stopped at along the way, it felt more urban.
The shopping street in front of the station has a nice atmosphere.
Once we left Otaru, we arrived at today's destination in no time.
"Sapporo Station"
I noticed immediately upon arrival, there were many people. It's obvious, but having traveled through the countryside for the past few days, the contrast was stark.
I was amazed by the subway like a country bumpkin.
Touring around the station area.
I was chilled from the rain, so I warmed up at a nearby public bath. I went to Kuwazono Station, took a bath, and had a light meal at a convenience store (banana and rice ball).
I returned to Sapporo Station and stayed at a manga cafe called Ai Cafe. I was moved by the all-you-can-eat soft serve ice cream. The facilities were clean, and I relied on this cafe several times during the rest of my trip.
Stations stopped at: Yachigashira → Hakodate → Nanae → Otaru → Sapporo → Kuwazono → Sapporo
Total travel time: 425 minutes
