View from the Tourist Train: "Japan's Best Train Window"【33】
Day 14【2014/9/6】
Kumamoto → Kagoshima → Miyazaki → Oita
Woke up at 6 am, packed the laundry, and set off. From the guesthouse balcony, could it be Kumamoto Castle that's visible?
The guesthouse I stayed at was "BARATIER."
From unmanned Kami-Kumamoto Station, I transferred at Kumamoto Station and arrived at Yatsushiro Station.
While having breakfast at a Family Mart in front of the station, students on their way to school kept coming in. With the start of September, summer vacation ended for the students, and I thought it wasn't bad to travel while watching them on the side.
The train from Yatsushiro Station to Hitoyoshi Station was luxurious. It might have been a sightseeing train.
The nature visible from the Japanese-style interior of the train was comforting.
Arrived at Hitoyoshi Station around 9:30 am. The sun was strong and there was little shade around, so I cooled off at the station.
The train from Hitoyoshi to Yoshimatsu was a complete sightseeing train. I was surprised as I boarded unknowingly, but most of the passengers were tourists.
The train moved slowly, stopping at small stations along the way. Local people were waiting at the stations, selling souvenirs.
I didn't know this, but the view from the train window between Hitoyoshi and Yoshimatsu is said to be the best in Japan.
The train stopped completely at a scenic spot, allowing us to view the scenery from the windows. The magnificent view spreading from a slightly elevated place was a breathtaking sight, making it understandable why it's considered the best in Japan.
We head towards Yoshimatsu, stopping at several stations along the way.
It took about 70 minutes to arrive at Yoshimatsu Station. I was planning to buy lunch here, but there wasn't much food being sold. In the end, the CalorieMate I had on hand became my lunch.
I originally intended to go to the center of Kagoshima, but due to time constraints, I just passed through Kagoshima and headed to Miyazaki.
Clouds that seemed to appear in Laputa could be seen from the window along the way.
Upon arriving at Miyazaki Station, I felt the tropical atmosphere. The dry heat and tropical trees welcomed me.
From Miyazaki, I head to Oita via Nobeoka Station.
When I arrived at the under-construction Oita Station, it was raining.
After eating udon around the station, I went to a public bath, and stayed overnight at Comic Buster.
Kami-Kumamoto → Kumamoto → Yatsushiro → Hitoyoshi → Yoshimatsu → Miyakonojo → Miyazaki → Minami-Nobeoka → Saiki → Oita → Takajo
