Spending a quiet New Year's in Yamagata where the snow dances 2020/1/1【66】
Day 1 in Yamagata
Due to the impact of the coronavirus, I've been spending more time at home. With nothing else to do, I decided to organize various things and started writing this blog during the Golden Week. I wonder how long we'll have to refrain from going out. I really want to travel again soon.
From January 1st to 3rd, 2020, I traveled to Yamagata and Miyagi.
It's been 3 years since I last celebrated the New Year in Japan. A calm end and start to the year is nice. I once again felt the beauty of Japan.
I left Tokyo around noon on the 1st and arrived in Yamagata by evening. It was my first time on the Yamagata Shinkansen.

After checking into a hotel near the station, I went out to eat local cuisine. Light snow was falling, and as expected, it was colder than Tokyo, with hardly any people around the station.

Perhaps because of the New Year, many shops were closed, but I found a tavern where I could enjoy local dishes.
The spacious restaurant was empty, which made me a bit worried, but as time went on, a decent number of customers came in, and I felt relieved.
I ordered several dishes of local cuisine and other intriguing menu items I had researched in advance and made a toast.

I had potato stew, ball-shaped konjac, horse sashimi, and more. I forgot to take photos of some dishes and just enjoyed the meal. Haha.

Back at the hotel, I ate ice cream I bought from a supermarket, and thus, the first day of 2020 came to an end.
