The serene sea as viewed from Kanita, I'll probably never forget it in my lifetime【20】
Day 3【2014/8/21】
Akita → Aomori → Hokkaido
Although we planned to depart at 7:00, I woke up at 6:40. I guess I was quite tired.
"Ugo Ushijima"
As I will experience many times from here on, the atmosphere changes between daytime and after sunset, even at the same station.
Passing by high school students on their way to school, this is my first disembarkation of the day.
"Hirosaki Station"
I strolled around the station area. Perhaps because it was lunchtime, there weren't many people around. I had some soba at the station before heading to the next station.
"Aomori Station"
I strolled around the station area. I've gotten used to the lack of people. I felt a strange sense of relief knowing that there are restaurants like Uomin, Shoushou, and Coco Ichi in Aomori as well.
Waiting at Aomori Station was a train heading towards Hokkaido. From the train window, I could see the calm sea stretching endlessly.
"Kanita Station"
I changed trains at this station to head to Hokkaido. I had about 90 minutes, so I strolled around the area.
Normally, to go from Aomori to Hokkaido, you need to take a paid express train. However, with a special exception available with the 18-ticket, I was able to ride in the unreserved seat of the express train. To apply this rule, it's necessary to change trains at Kanita, so several other 18-ticket holders got off at Kanita as well.
There were a few eateries and one convenience store around Kanita Station. There was also a shop selling local products attached to the station.
I sat on the embankment and gazed at the sea.
The calm Mutsu Bay as viewed from Kanita was mesmerizing, and I never got tired of looking at it.
Back at the station while waiting for the train, local elderly people gathered and were having a casual chat. I was listening right next to them but couldn't understand a word they were saying. Hearing the accented dialect, I realized that I had come quite far.
This train will cross the Tsugaru Strait.
I arrived at Kikonai Station in Hokkaido in about an hour.
I changed trains at Kikonai and headed to Hakodate. The train to Hakodate was a single-car train, and most of the passengers were 18-ticket holders who had boarded at Aomori Station.
The magnificent nature visible from the train window was one thing, but the cool air coming in through the open windows was refreshing.
"Goryokaku Station"
I got off midway and headed to a laundromat.
While waiting for the laundry, I slowly realized that I had come all the way to Hokkaido.
During the journey, I barely used my smartphone. Since all the places I was going to were new to me, I wanted to etch the scenery firmly in my eyes. Besides, there were many places where there was no signal...
Even at the laundromat, I spent about an hour just gazing at the mundane scenery outside while listening to the sound of the machine selection.
By the time the laundry was done, it had already gotten dark outside.
"Hakodate Station"
I ate ramen at a place called "Zundo."
After eating, I took a tram to the terminal station.
I headed to the guesthouse I had reserved, but the way was so dark that I started to worry if it really existed. I was prepared for the worst, imagining the scenario of getting lost in an unfamiliar place at night.
Somehow, I managed to arrive at "Hakodate Mountain Guesthouse."
The guesthouse, situated on a small hill, offered a view of Hakodate's night scenery.
Other than me, the guests were a family of four Caucasians and a few others. I stayed in a shared room, but the other Chinese guest hadn't arrived yet. Thanks to that, I had the night view all to myself.
