Touring Jōdogahama, where the effects of the disaster still remain, the journey continues to Sendai【24】
Day 7【2014/8/25】
Iwate → Miyagi
The hotel was actually such a tall building.
Checked out at 10 am and headed to Morioka Station. It was refreshing to sleep in a proper bed in a private room after a long time.
Since the first train was at 11 am, we could rest leisurely. Today's plan was sightseeing in Miyako.
During our journey in Tohoku, we witnessed several traces of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Miyako was one of them. The train service from Morioka Station to Miyako Station had fewer frequencies than usual, and the schedule was altered.
It took about 2 hours to reach Miyako.
Many tourists were on board.
Rented bicycles from the tourist information center in front of the station and set off for sightseeing.
"Orange Bike No.1"
Discovered a mysterious bridge along the way.
There were temporary housing units as well.
Despite being rained on along the way, we arrived.
"Jodogahama"
It was a mystical space reminiscent of paradise.
・The sea was a clear emerald color
・The beach stones were rounded and white
・Huge rocks big enough for trees to grow
・A large flock of seagulls
After a good amount of sightseeing, we ate salt ramen at a restaurant.
The broth was rich and delicious. The size of the scallops was particularly surprising.
After eating, we returned to Miyako Station via a different route.
The view of Jodogahama from the high ground was also profound.
When we arrived at the station, the number of Orange Bike comrades had increased. Lol
It takes about 30 minutes from Miyako to Jodogahama. There are steep slopes, so if you're not confident in your stamina, we recommend taking a bus or taxi.
Returned to Morioka Station from Miyako Station, and headed straight to Sendai Station.
Due to extreme fatigue, I forgot to take photos.
It was already before 10 pm when we arrived in Sendai. The crowd and the bright lights of the buildings felt dazzling (it's a city indeed).
Had dinner at Handaya discovered in the station. Ate mackerel simmered in miso.
Stayed overnight at an internet cafe near the station, the first time since Sapporo. Ate 3 or 4 ice creams before bed.
Stops: Morioka → Miyako → Morioka → Ichinoseki → Sendai
Total travel time: 442 minutes
