Enjoying "Matsushima," One of the Three Most Scenic Spots in Japan, and Sendai's Specialty "Beef Tongue"【25】
Day 8【2014/8/26】
Miyagi → Fukushima → Tochigi
AM 7:30
It was quieter than last night.
Departing for a tour of one of the three most scenic spots in Japan.
Headed from Sendai Station to Matsushima Kaigan Station. Due to the effects of the tsunami, there are replacement buses from here. I was able to board the bus with an 18-ticket.
Got off at a bus stop called "Toumei" and took a short stroll.
There were several buildings damaged by the tsunami in the area, and several temporary graves were built.
You can see Matsushima in the distance, but the sound of reconstruction work created a strange atmosphere.
Returned to Matsushima Kaigan Station and headed for sightseeing.
About 10 minutes walk from the station, you can see Matsushima.
Matsushima is a collective term for several small islands, and is considered one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. Therefore, there were many tourists.
It seems like a major enjoyment is to view it from the sea by boarding a boat. (I didn't board due to time constraints)
It's good to board a boat if you have time, as you can see the islands in the offing together.
Walking along the coast, I crossed Fukuura Bridge and landed on one of the islands.
Upon arriving on the island, the natural air felt comfortable.
The view of other islands from this island was also charming.
Matsushima is a tourist spot that's hard to describe in words. Compared to other three most scenic spots in Japan, it doesn't have an impactful "This" scenery. It's hard to convey the goodness without multiple photos or a video.
On the way back, I went from Matsushima Station to Sendai Station.
Late lunch around Sendai Station.
"Rikyu"
When in Sendai, you have to try the beef tongue! So, here's a beef tongue set meal in its hometown.
It was my first time eating thick beef tongue. It was really delicious. The meat with a good chewiness was a perfect match with the white rice and moderate saltiness.
Headed south from Sendai.
"Fukushima Station"
Perhaps due to the rain, there were fewer people around the station, and I took a light stroll.
I didn't do any sightseeing, but instead, I bought a local specialty "Mamadoru".
Heading further south from Fukushima Station.
"Utsunomiya Station"
I didn't underestimate it as the holy land of dumplings, but it was more prosperous than I thought.
Looked for a place to sleep while having dinner at Saizeriya. Eventually, I spent the night at a manga cafe about a 20-minute walk away.
Stops: Sendai → Matsushima Coast → Touna → Matsushima Coast → Matsushima → Sendai → Fukushima → Kuroiso → Utsunomiya
