Forgetting Time with the Scenic Onomichi, First Shikoku!【35】
Day 16【2014/9/8】
Hiroshima → Okayama → Kagawa → Tokushima → Kochi
We got delayed in the morning preparations and ended up leaving the manga cafe later than planned. As a result, I didn't have the leisure to take photos for a while.
We change trains at Mihara station and head towards Onomichi.
The sunlight was too strong, but it was an excellent day for sightseeing.
As soon as you leave the station, you can see the Seto Inland Sea nearby. It was past 9 in the morning, but there were few people around.
Walking along the sea, we arrived at an area densely populated with shrines.
There are slopes and alleys everywhere, stimulating curiosity just by walking around.
Proceeding through a gate with giant straw sandals, a tall staircase appears.
At the top, there's a shrine, and you can climb even higher from there.
We continued our exploration without taking a leisurely break.
We discovered a ropeway station along the way. We took the opportunity to ride it to a higher place.
When we got off the ropeway, there were some small tourist spots.
Onomichi had a nostalgic atmosphere where the city, mountains, and sea were harmoniously blended.
The heat was so intense that even the cats were lying down in the shade.
While enjoying the scenery and walking down the slope, we arrived at the lower ropeway station. We had bought round-trip tickets, so it felt like a bit of a loss.
For lunch, we had the local specialty, Onomichi soy sauce ramen.
The egg was roughly cut, but it was delicious. It was at a restaurant called Ichibankan.
After the meal, while resting in the shade near the station, a woman who seemed to be a job-hunting student sat next to us. I envied her, thinking, "It must be nice to work in a place where you can see such beautiful scenery nearby."
We left Onomichi after about half a day of sightseeing and headed to Okayama.
In Okayama, we got off the train to transfer and immediately headed to Shikoku.
It was my first time in Shikoku and my first time crossing the Seto Ohashi Bridge. The announcement on the train heightened my excitement.
We got off at Sakaide Station, but it was extremely hot.
At the station, I felt warm-hearted watching local elementary school students playing around.
We transferred at Tadotsu Station and hurried on our journey.
We mistakenly got off at an unmanned station called Iyaguchi Station during a transfer.
Since we had about an hour until the next train, we explored the surroundings and discovered a large bridge.
Finally, we boarded the train that arrived and headed to Kochi Station. There were several interesting station names along the way.
When we arrived at Kochi Station, it was already dark around. We stayed overnight at a manga cafe near the station.
Niiguchi → Mihara → Onomichi → Okayama → Sakaide → Tadotsu → Iyaguchi → Kochi
