Day 4 in Hongkong【2018/8/16】
We went to Starbucks a little later than usual, just after 8 in the morning.
It's the usual Starbucks located underground near our guesthouse.
As always, I ordered a short hot Americano.
It's a common pattern in overseas chain stores, but the Wifi password is written on the receipt.
Hong Kong is famous for its signs extending out to the road, and high-end watchmakers are no exception. Here's a signboard with an OMEGA watch, which wouldn't be surprising if it got stolen in some countries.
After some thought at Starbucks, we headed to our first destination of the day.
We got off the subway at Mong Kok from Tsim Sha Tsui. After a short walk, we could see the Goldfish Market.
True to its name, goldfish are sold everywhere here.
Walking further north on the road after the rain, we arrived at the Flower Market.
As the name suggests, flowers are sold everywhere here.
Leaving the scent of flowers behind, we headed towards East Mong Kok. On the way, we passed through a shopping mall attached to a hotel called MOKO.
The scenery felt somewhat European.
We got off at Wong Tai Sin station from East Mong Kok station and found a large temple just a 5-minute walk away.
Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple
The colorful lanterns are captivating, but the place is very crowded. People walk around with large incense sticks, so be careful of the ashes to avoid burns. Sandals can be risky.
It was too crowded to feel at ease, so we stopped sightseeing quickly.
We had lunch at a shopping mall connected to Wong Tai Sin station. The restaurant was Tsui Wah, a Hong Kong cuisine chain.
It was lunchtime, so the restaurant was crowded.
We ordered a set of some noodle soup dish similar to Bee Hoon, bread, and lemon tea. It wasn't exceptionally delicious, but it had a gentle taste.
After lunch, we headed towards Hong Kong Island by subway. We got off at Causeway Bay station and explored the surroundings.
In front of Times Square, there was a Gundam statue. In Hong Kong, there were other places where Gundam was popular too.
The area, akin to Shibuya where the youth of Hong Kong gather, was crowded and there were some people who looked like celebrities.
Straying a little off the path, we found markets selling fresh ingredients. Such scenes make you feel the essence of China.
We decided to visit Fuji Building, where from the afternoon, many comrades were lining up. For more details, please Google "Ping Pong Mansion".
After enjoying international exchanges with young and beautiful Hong Kong girls, we headed towards Victoria Peak, feeling satisfied.
There's a bus stop in front of the Central ferry terminal. About 20 people were in line, but we got seats easily as the bus had two floors. It was a fun bus journey with some Indian folks.
We arrived at Victoria Peak for the second time on this trip.
We were a bit hungry, so we tried the egg waffles that had caught our eye since we arrived in Hong Kong. The round parts were filled with batter, making it quite satisfying.
We saw these egg waffles being sold at a stall near Tokyo Station after returning home.
After enjoying Hong Kong sweets, we finally went to see the spectacular view.
Although it was cloudy, the buildings of Hong Kong were impressive. The southern side of Hong Kong Island has mountains and seas stretching as far as the eye can see.
We waited at the observation deck for it to get dark. As time passed, the lights in the buildings increased, giving a sense of life to the scene.
We enjoyed the view for about an hour and left the observation deck around 7 PM.
On the way back, we took a bus to the Central city area and headed towards Lan Kwai Fong. It was around 9 PM on a Thursday, but it was fairly crowded and had a lively atmosphere.
After a brief tour of Lan Kwai Fong, we headed towards the ferry terminal.
On the way, we stopped by a supermarket and had discounted salads for dinner.
The night view from the ferry was elegant.
Upon arriving at Tsim Sha Tsui, we bought soft ice cream that we had been curious about. They were being sold from mobile stalls at various places in the city. Even though it was night, many people were buying soft ice cream.
The night view from the ground was also beautiful.
While eating soft ice cream, we enjoyed the night view and listened to street live performances by four groups, savoring the night in Hong Kong.
