Touring lovely tourist spots around Frankfurt. April 2023【88】
2023/4/22-24 in Frankfurt
I took a 2-night, 3-day trip to Germany by combining the weekend and paid leave.
Day 1
Heathrow Airport early in the morning.

I flew from London to Frankfurt on Lufthansa Airlines for the first time.
From Frankfurt Airport, I took a train to downtown Frankfurt.

After checking out at the Toyoko INN where I stayed for the night and leaving my luggage, I took a short walk around the city.

Being hungry, I had a German-like lunch at the station.

A mysterious combination of sausage and soft drink.
After the meal, I took a train from Frankfurt to Mainz.

From Mainz station, I took a tram to a stadium called MEWA Arena.

As the stadium approached, I could see local fans walking in a line.

The highlight of the day was watching a soccer match.

Mainz vs Bayern Munich
Amidst a packed stadium, I sat in the home seats as the match began.

Bayern had the upper hand in the first half, leading 1-0 at halftime, but in the second half, Mainz scored 3 goals, ending the match with a 3-1 victory for Mainz.
The home fans were elated, having triumphed over a strong team.
I returned to Mainz station from the stadium and took a stroll around the city.

Although it's small, the town has a charming atmosphere and is delightful to walk around.

I then traveled back to Frankfurt by train and did a bit of sightseeing.
The Euro sign at the European Central Bank.

Römer Square

St. Bartholomew's Cathedral

After all that, I started to get hungry, so I headed to a restaurant for dinner.

At a German restaurant called 'Paulaner am Dom', I enjoyed a sausage platter and white asparagus.

Both come with potatoes on the side.

It pairs perfectly with beer.
After eating, I went to a nearby pub-like place and had some beer and wine before heading back.

Day 2
After waking up, I did a light workout and took a shower, then had breakfast at the hotel.

Ham, sausage, cereal with milk, and an apple.
This day, I met up with a friend in Frankfurt and enjoyed brunch at a trendy cafe.

I had pork, potatoes, and stir-fried vegetables with beer.
After eating, I checked into the hotel for the second night, left my luggage, and headed to Frankfurt Central Station.

I took a train from Frankfurt and arrived in Rüdesheim in about an hour.

When you take the gondola up the mountain, you can overlook the city.

It was a beautiful view with canals, forests, and the city in harmony.

The gondola ride down was slow and leisurely, with nice weather and a pleasant breeze. It was a graceful time.

Rüdesheim is a town famous for its vineyards and wine.

I had a tasting at a wine cellar operated by a Japanese person.

After leaving Rüdesheim, I returned to Frankfurt by train.
That evening, I went to a German restaurant.

I had Eisbein and sausage with a generous side of sauerkraut.

I also tried a cider called Apfelwein, but the taste wasn't to my liking.
Day 3
Due to various reasons, the last day was only about returning home.
I flew from Frankfurt to London City Airport with British Airways.

The journey between London and Frankfurt takes less than two hours, so I'd love to go again if I get a chance.
But next time, I'd like to visit Berlin.
